Goodridge Freedom Center

The William C. Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum continues the story of Crispus Attucks through the life achievements of William C. Goodridge, an African American who rose from slavery to business prominence in York, PA, and later risked everything to help freedom seekers escape from slavery in the mid-1800s.

The museum is an authenticated site on the Underground Railroad, recognized as part of the National Park Service’s Network to Freedom. It is one of the few African American culture sites nationwide, and the only African American museum in York.

Come visit us for an extraordinary experience:

  • Stand on hallowed ground to see an actual hiding place on the underground railroad
  • View original daguerreotype, ambrotype & tintype photographs in a place it once existed
  • View our collection of African American photo jewelry
  • Go back in history and hear first-person accounts from living history interpreters

We are open Wednesdays & Saturdays 10am – 6pm, First Fridays 4pm – 8pm and tours by appointment.
